Instagram adds scannable nametags to redefine connections

tag and re-share someone's Instagram Story as your own Instagram scannable nametags

Instagram has added a new feature called Nametag to help you connect with other users around you. The new feature is currently being rolled out to users worldwide.

The future works by showing your username on your phone in a format that allows it to be scanned by the other person who wishes to follow you.

The feature is meant to be a faster way to follow people you meet in real life.

Users will also be able to customize their nametags with additional designs, colors, and stickers which can be scanned by other users who wish to connect with you.

When this feature reaches to your country, you will be able to find it in your profile.

Instagram began its global roll-out of the feature on Thursday and as with all new features, an update will be required in order to access it.

To access it in your account, visit your profile, hit the menu icon on your right and you will find a “nametag” option on the list of options. Every user will have their unique nametag different from another.

To scan a nametag, you can either swipe right into the camera, hover over the nametag and hold down on your screen, or enter the camera by tapping ‘scan a nametag’.

This feature is specifically meant for users you met physically but those who wish to share their nametags on social media platforms are not restricted from doing so.

This will, however, provide your friends and follows on social media platforms a link to your profile as opposed to what the physical scan does.
