New Promo: Uber piles more pressure on Taxify, Dial Jack, Safeboda

UberBoda free rides

The competition among boda-boda hailing services is set to become more aggressive after UberBoda which had been seen as reluctant in cutting transport costs, rolled out a new promotion on Thursday.

In a Twitter statement, Uber said that beginning Thursday, UberBoda will be offering free rides to its customers between 2pm – 5pm.

“Starting today ride uberBODA for FREE between 2pm – 5pm. Simply open your Uber app, enter your destination, tap on uberBODA and be on time to catch the football action. Get riding now and share the good news with your friends and family using #FREEUBERBODA. That’s Right! YitaUber,” reads the statement.

According to another statement published on the Uber website, this promotion will run from June 28 to July 8, 2018. The offers will be given daily.

The promotion, however, is restricted to specific areas around Kampala and a few of its suburbs like Makerere, Nakulabye, Nakasero, Mbuya, Kabalagala, Kansanga, Bukasa, Rubaga, and Bukoto.

Officials also said that uberBODA Rides must start and end within the service area to qualify for the promo.

Also, important to note, according to officials, “Neither the Promotional Code nor the Discount can be transferred, duplicated or sold and they have no cash value” and “Neither the Promotional Code or the Discount can be combined with any other discounts, codes or promotions.”

The campaign comes after the recent launch of Dial Jack, which also came with new multiple offers that, if fully exploited, could shake up the boda-boda industry.

This promotion that has been rolled out by UberBoda is a first of its kind; currently, other boda hailing services – Taxify, SafeBoda, and Dial Jack – are offering 50% discounts on rides.
