Ride-hailing service Uber has partnered with Tigo, a telecommunications company based in Tanzania to introduce UberChopper to East Africa’s largest nation.

According to a joint statement by the two companies, the offer will be for a day and it will be available to 20 people, with each company submitting 10 customers.

The air trip around Dar es Salaam in a helicopter will be on Friday, 14 December 2018.

Uber has been testing the UberChopper service around the world, and in East Africa, it has been tested in Kenya and Uganda before.

The statement by Uber and Tigo says the trip will take 15 minutes anywhere between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.

On that day, Uber customers will have the option of ordering for a helicopter ride on the app. Only ten people will get the chance.

As for Tigo customers, the company is running a campaign through which its customers will get a chance of qualifying for the flight.

Alfred Msemo, Country Manager at Uber Tanzania said, “We are excited to announce such a partnership with Tigo as we take pride in offering unique, exclusive ways in which riders can make their day special with uberCHOPPER – which will be as simple as requesting an Uber vehicle. We welcome everyone to download the Uber App, participate and enjoy this once in a lifetime opportunity.”

“As a robust brand in the Tanzanian market, Tigo has a vested stake in introducing more efficient ways for customers to engage with the world around them. Tigo customers are already able to use the Uber app for free without the need to have data bundles on their phones, whilst also enjoying coupons that offer them free rides. Now we are giving them a unique chance to celebrate with us through free uberCHOPPER rides,” Tigo’s Head of Marketing Services, William Mpinga added.

The lucky winners will be fetched from their location and will be taken to the uberCHOPPER helipad at Sea Cliff Resort.
