apps that can track a lost mobile phone

By reading this, it means you’ve either misplaced or lost your phone.

After losing a phone, there are three different ways through which you can track it: a) you can use authorities b) you can use the default phone tracking system installed by the manufacturer.

The third is what this article is about: apps that can track a lost mobile phone.

Some of these apps don’t only help you recover your stolen phone but they also help you when the situation gets out of hand i.e., they can wipe clean all the personal data you had on the phone in case you realize you won’t be able to retrieve it.

Without further ado, below are the six apps that can track a lost mobile phone.

1. Where’s My Droid

Where’s My Droid can be downloaded from the Play Store.

With this app pre-installed on your device, you’ll just need to borrow a friend’s phone to send a text message, WMD GPS, to the stolen device.

When you send that message, the phone that was stolen or misplaced will ring, even if it is in Silent Mode.

After that, you’ll be able to get the GPS coordinates of the current location of the phone.

Remember: this app works only when the sim card is still in the phone and the battery is still strong enough to last the search.

2. Plan B

With this app, you can track a lost mobile phone even if it hadn’t been installed on that phone before it got lost.

But it’s better to always have it on the phone.

Plan B is an Android app that locates your phone using cell towers and GPS, then sends the location of your smartphone to your Gmail Inbox.

You can interact with the app via the web.

When tracking a phone that doesn’t support GPS technology, you’ll use another phone to send a text, location, to the lost phone.

3. Android Lost Free

Android Lost Free is another app that can track a lost phone.

The app can be activated via an SMS to the lost phone or the web at www.androidlost.com.

When it is activated, the alarm will ring with a flashing screen and disable the GPS, data and Wi-Fi connection.

You’ll also be able to remotely wipe the SD card and get the thief’s latest call list.

When the person with the phone changes the sim card, you’ll be notified.

4. SeekDroid Lite

This is one of the best apps to track a lost mobile phone.

Some of its features include remotely locking a phone, wiping it clean of data, SMS activation, ring alert even in Silent Mode.

It can also be hidden so the thief won’t know it’s on the phone. It also supports GPS tracking.

SeekDroid Lite can also help you locate your mobile phone even when the sim card is removed.

It has both a free and a premium version.

5. Prey Anti-Theft

Prey Anti-Theft is another good app you can use to track a lost phone.

However, you can only use it if it was installed in the phone prior to losing it.

You can interact with the app via the web. When using it, you’ll send a message, GO PREY, all in caps to the stolen device.

The other good thing about this app is that it can be hidden and the thief won’t know it’s on the phone

6. Norton Mobile Security Lite

With Norton Mobile Security Lite, you can track a lost mobile phone using GPS technology.

It has a premium version which allows you to track a lost phone when it is a short distance away.

When it’s installed in a phone before losing it, it will automatically lock up the phone when the sim card is removed. Your data will also be backed up.

But the phone you are tracking should be connected to the internet for you to use this app.
