As we’ve previously discussed, when BSoDs occur, they can have a deep impact on the functionality of your computer, so, you need to learn to fix blue screens of death when they appear on your machine.

Blue Screens of Death (BSODs), also called a STOP Errors, will appear when an issue is so serious that Windows must stop completely.

A Blue Screen of Death is usually hardware or driver related. Most BSODs show a STOP code that can be used to help figure out the root cause of the Blue Screen of Death.

It is not difficult to fix blue screens of death. Firstly, you will need to pinpoint the STOP code and this will explain the problem. Some computers may just shut down and restart. There are other solutions to show you how to fix blue screen of death (BSoD).

In this guide, we will show you some methods of fixing this problem (BSoD) which haunts Windows users every now and then. This applies to any version of Windows, including Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.

1. Consider your recent actions on the computer

Did you install a piece of software, plug in a new piece of hardware, download custom drivers, or change the settings?

If so, the recent change you made is probably the reason for the Blue Screen of Death(BSoD), so repairing it will depend on that change.

2. Scan for Malware

There could be dangerous malicious software that is causing your blue screen of death(BSoD).

Malware that digs deep into Windows and gets its hooks into the Windows kernel at a low level can cause system instability.

Scan your computer for malware and delete malwares and viruses to ensure buggy malicious software isn’t causing it to crash.

3. Run a virus scan.

While rare, sometimes viruses can trick your computer into thinking that it’s malfunctioning, which can in turn cause the BSoD crash.

If the virus scan comes up with any malicious software, remove it immediately.

If the virus scan sends software settings suggestions (e.g., battery life) to you during the scan, try implementing them. A flawed setting may cause the BSOD to appear.

4. Install Updated Drivers

Another way you can explore to fix Blue Screens of Death is installing updated drivers. Go to your PC’s manufacturer website and look for updated hardware drivers.

An incorrectly installed or buggy driver can lead to crashes. Download the latest drivers for your computer’s hardware and install them, this can get rid of poorly installed drivers fix BSODs caused by driver problems.

Most Blue Screens of Death are hardware or driver related, so updated drivers could fix the cause of the STOP error.

5. Boot your computer into Safe Mode

If you get a blue screen each time you try to start your computer, try booting into safe mode.

If a recent driver installation is causing the blue screen(BSoD) error, it will not cause it in Safe Mode. So you can solve the issue from safe mode.

6. Use system restore

If your system recently started blue-screening, you can use System Restore to bring back your Windows software to its original state, If you succeed, the cause of BSODs is software related.

7. Check for hardware problems

Faulty hardware in your computer could be triggering your blue screen of death(BSoD).

Try testing your computer’s memory for errors and checking its temperature to ensure that it isn’t overheating. If that fails or cannot test any hardware, get help from an expert technician.

If you’ve been running your computer on high-performance settings for several hours especially if the computer doesn’t have adequate circulation or if you live in a particularly warm environment the Blue Screen of Death(BSoD)  can appear.

If so, turn off your computer the first chance that you get and leave it off for a few hours.

9 Repair Windows

In severe cases, Windows will not start. Use installation media to repair Windows. Plug in the Windows installation media, select your language, then click on “Repair your computer”.

Check that there’s enough free space left on the drive Windows is installed on. Blue Screens of Death and other serious issues, like data corruption, can occur if there’s not enough free space on your primary partition used for the Windows operating system.

Note: Microsoft recommends that you maintain at least 100MB of free space but you’ll regularly see problems with free space that low. It’s usually advised that Windows users keep at least 10% of a drive’s capacity free at all times.
