Airtel unveils its virtual card, the Airtel Money Mastercard

Airtel Uganda, in partnership with Mastercard, has unveiled its virtual debit card. Dubbed the ‘Airtel Money Mastercard’, the card is designed to offer Airtel Money customers a safe, convenient and secure platform to transact online globally.

The product is a virtual card which allows Airtel Money customers, including those without a bank account, to make payments to local and global online merchants that accept Mastercard. These include platforms like Netflix, Uber, Amazon, Google Play, AliExpress, Alibaba, while ensuring that the customer’s financial data is always secure and private. All transactions have a maximum charge of Shs1,000.

The card is attached to the Airtel Money subscriber’s wallet which means that the balance of your Airtel Money account is the balance of your Airtel Money Mastercard. A customer can also delete the card at any time for security reasons and create a new card at any time at convenience or when required to make purchases online.

You can get your Airtel Money Mastercard in two ways: USSD and MyAirtel app.

How to get the Airtel Uganda virtual card using USSD

  • Ddial *185*7#
  • Select Airtel Money MasterCard
  • Select ‘Get a Card’ and follow the prompts.
  • Once done, you will receive an SMS with card details to transact online.

How to get the Airtel Uganda virtual card using the MyAirtel app

If you use the MyAirtel app:

  • Select Airtel Money
  • Enter the Pin
  • Select ‘Mastercard’ Get Card Option
  • Re-enter the Pin. A virtual card will be created in your name.
